TarTan Sweepstakes: Judith Brown	Judge’s Biography – Judith Morrall Brown My lifelong passion for dogs began in childhood with Miniature Poodles and Boxers. After relocating from the UK to Canada in 1978, I became deeply involved in exhibiting Gordon Setters and established my Sassenach kennel in 1985. Since then, I have dedicated myself to breeding Gordon Setters that exemplify sound structure, intelligence, correct type, and stable temperaments. I am a lifetime member of the Canadian Kennel Club, a CKC Master Breeder, and a past president of the Gordon Setter Club of Canada. I also maintain memberships in the Gordon Setter Club of America, the Pacific Northwest Gordon Setter Club (Washington), and the Tartan Gordon Setter Club (New England). While geography limits my in-person involvement with U.S.-based clubs, I remain actively connected to the breed’s development and community across North America. I am also proud to be recognized as an AKC Breeder of Merit. My Gordons have achieved numerous titles in conformation, hunting, rally, and obedience. A particular highlight of my breeding career was winning Best of Breed at both the U.S. and Canadian National Specialties with my homebred dog, Edward. Over the years, my dogs have earned recognition not only in Canada and the United States but also across Europe, a testament to their quality and consistency. I am currently working toward my judging license for the Sporting Group and hope to obtain my permit for a portion of the group in the near future. Beyond breeding and showing, I am committed to promoting responsible breeding practices, preserving the breed standard, and ensuring the health and welfare of all sporting dogs under my care.

LET US CELEBRATE OUR  JUNIOR HANDLERS

A number of exciting, new and fun things will be implemented this year and we sincerely hope you are planning to join us!

 Scholarship

The Gordon Setter Club of America is proudly offering a Scholarship for the first time!  This Scholarship will be awarded to the Best Junior Handler.  This award will be held, according to AKC guidelines, by the Gordon Setter Club of America until the Junior  is enrolled and request that it be sent to a college or trade school that meets GSCA criteria.  We are excited to be adding this award.  The winner will receive a certificate and packet containing all the pertinent information.

Beaded Kangaroo Lead Raffle For One Lucky Winner

We will once again have an arm band raffle for all Juniors who are entered and in attendance at the National.  This beautiful beaded Kangaroo lead, along with many others, was donated by its creator Bobbie Tucker of Oakisle Gordon Setters.  Bobbie has since retired and gifted us many of her gorgeous leads, ensuring we can continue with this tradition for many years to come!  This arm band raffle will be held during our Awards Banquet, you must be present to win.  If you are not attending the banquet, we will have seating available.

During the awards dinner there will be a special video presentation honoring all of our 2024 Juniors created by Barbi McCoy.  Even if you are not attending the National please participate!  We’d love to see you and celebrate your accomplishments!  The deadline to be included is August 1.  Send you images to Barbi at [email protected]

Junior and Peewee Welcome Bags

All entrants will receive special Welcome bags created especially for our Juniors!  Once again they will be filled with useful show supplies and memento’s. Peewees will  also receive their own Welcom bags filled with age appropriate items.

We will also have a “Meet Our Juniors” section in the catalog for all Juniors entered.   This section will include your favorite image of you and your beautiful black and tan, along with a short bio about you and your favorite memory.  Please reach out to me as soon as you know you will be attending! Best All Around Junior Exhibitor

We’ve developed a way to honor you and encourage your participation, this is your National too!  You will earn points for everything you do, from showing your dog(s) and handling others, extra points for multiple entries of your dog and placements earned.  Points for helping committee members accomplish their goals; catalog sales, stuffing welcome bags, setting up or helping tear down, decorating, attending symposium’s, etc, … the sky is the limit!  The Junior earnings the most points will win a special prize.

Mentors at Events

Sharing knowledge at any of our National events is valuable to all of us and we’d love to share our knowledge with you.  Mentors will be available to share information about our different events.  Mick Osman, Judges Education, will again be giving a presentation to Juniors about Gordon Setters.

PeeWee Handling Competition

Once again we will be offering Peewee Handling Competition! We hope these “juniors of Tomorrow” will light up the ring like they did last year!

Fun

Along with all our other plans we have fun events planned throughout the week, from a scavenger hunt, to an ice cream social and/or a luncheon.  We hope to be adding more in the coming months.

RV PARKING INFORMATION
GORDON SETTER CLUB OF AMERICA – 2025 NATIONAL SPECIALTY
OCTOBER 20 – 24, 2025
BOXBOROUGH, MASSACHUSETTS
1. The hotel is in charge of RV parking.
2. Please use the corresponding form to submit your RV parking reservation and payment
directly to the hotel.
3. It is recommended that you email or fax your reservation form to the hotel and follow-up with
a phone call to confirm, due to the limited number of spaces available.
4. Any questions regarding payment should be directed to the hotel.
5. There are only 10 RV spaces available. Reservations will be accepted on a first come, first
serve basis.
6. All camping units must be fully self-contained. The discharging of gray or black water on
hotel grounds is strictly prohibited. If any camping units are found to be discharging waste
water, you will be asked to leave without a refund, a bench show hearing may be held, and
further action may be taken by the hotel.
7. We are looking into the feasibility of having a honey wagon brought in mid-week to pump out
holding tanks; however, this is not guaranteed and campers should be prepared to remain
fully self-contained for the duration of their stay. Once spaces are sold out, Brian Hubbard
will reach out to those with reservations regarding this.
8. When you arrive, you are required to check-in with the front desk of the hotel for your
parking pass.
9. You are parking at your own risk. There will not be any security in the parking lot.
10. The hotel prohibits the grilling of food outside of your camping unit. Please plan for your
meals accordingly.
11. Out of respect for your camping neighbors and guests of the hotel, please be mindful of your
noise level when putting your dogs out early in the morning and/or late at night. Please do
not allow your dogs to bark excessively in their ex-pens.
12. If your reservation is rejected due to the limit being reached, please notify Jim McWalter
([email protected]) so we may keep a waiting list if there are any cancellations.

Breeder Basket Raffle

Something new this year! We understand that some of the larger baskets end up being quite expensive, but honestly, not everyone can afford to bid on these. We thought this year we’d offer another option, a Breeder Basket. This basket should be smaller, and filled with donations from breeders, groomers, handlers, and business owners, dog-related or not. Nothing expensive, nothing rare. This is going to be a RAFFLE!

Health Clinic: OFA DNA Repository and Orivet DNA Testing On Mon Oct 20th, the 2025 GSCA National will be sponsoring a Health Clinic, providing reduced rates for various tests, including PRA, CCA (CD), carry for red and carry for liver.. The GSCA has been extremely helpful in negotiating the price for these tests. No profit will be made at this event. Available offerings will include: • OFA DNA Repository blood draws (fees sponsored by Gordon Setter Health Foundation and shipping paid by the TarTan Charitable Trust) NO CHARGE. • Oral/saliva swabs for Gordon Setter-specific DNA testing by Orivet for rcd4 (PRA, progressive retinal atrophy), Cerebellar Ataxia (CD, CCA), and the “b” red and liver gene (pricing TBD, but the price will be only what Orivet charges us) Payment for the Orivet testing has yet to be determined. The clinic will take place in the Seminar Room, time to be determined. No pre-registration is required for these tests. Watch for further information. This is a great opportunity, not only for your own dogs, but for our breed, and dogs in general. Plus, you save some money! Don’t miss this chance.

Health & Genetics We will welcome Dr. Phil Bergman as our speaker for the Health and Genetics lecture. His talk will be entitled “Top 10 Recent Advances in Veterinary Oncology”. He describes it here: “This lecture will cover a variety of the biggest advances in veterinary oncology within the last 20 years. I will emphasize tumors that Gordon Setters get, especially oral melanoma.”
